Look what I did to these love songs

OK, I know there are so many love songs out there that are very special, moving and life altering.  However, in my mind there are a few songs that stand out , but for completely different reasons.

“Every time you go away, you take a piece of me with you” is how this plays on the radio.  In my mind, I changed the lyrics to “Every time you go away, you take a piece of meat with you”  Just imagining someone carry meat with them as they leave a lover changes the whole song.  Picture a couple that’s breaking up, and one of them says” I’m leaving! Oh wait, before I go, can I check the freezer first?

I don’t know the actual name of the next song, but my mom  was singing the song in church years ago and I had to use all my energy not to burst out laughing.  Everyone’s eyes were closed, they were also holding hands and swaying  They were singing “weave, weave, weave...”  All I could do was think about Elmer Fudd  mispronouncing “Leave” over and over.

One of my latest song interpretations comes from  the song “Grenade”. It’s all about professing such strong intense love that you would catch a grenade for someone, and even throw your head on a blade for them.  For ME, I don’t care who you are or how much I love you…This is what I would do:

  • I would watch a parade for ya
  • sit in the shade for ya
  • dig with a spade for ya

Heck, I would even drink lemonade for ya

  1. This is a lot of fun. As others have said, what a great approach we need now, to enjoy the humor, laughter and silliness of the moment. And so well observed and beautifully written. Marvellous …
